Why should you consider Christian counseling as opposed to secular counseling and is there really any difference between them? At New Vision, we contend there is as vast and significance difference between the two approaches. First, and foremost, as Christian counselors we see people’s issues as primarily spiritual in nature. Meaning, we believe that man’s main problems in life result from his sin problem. When sin entered the world, man became separated from His maker and spiritual Father, resulting in spiritual darkness and depravity. This broken relationship then, is the chief cause of man’s pain and crippling condition.
At New Vision Counseling & Consulting, we believe that Christian counseling differs from secular in many ways, including the person of the counselor, our accountability to the authority of Scripture, and the power of the Holy Spirit present in the counseling session.
As Christian counselors, we hold ourselves to the highest standard of accountability. While we certainly honor the ACA Code of Ethics, we also adhere to a Higher Authority. We believe that God, not man, has called us to this position. Therefore, we seek to honor and please Him first and in both our personal lives as well as in the counseling session. We consider ourselves students of the Scripture in order to show ourselves approved [by God]. As Christian counselors, we seek to have the mind of Christ, present a heart of wisdom, and counsel our clients with an abundance of grace.
Secondly, we consider Scripture to be the gold standard for man’s mental and emotional health. That is, we believe that God’s Word alone has the power to bring complete healing to your soul. We believe Scripture has the real answers to life’s toughest issues, including our deepest grief, our strongest addictions, and our most complex relational problems. For us, the Bible is the only infallible source of truth-the truth that has the power to set us free from sin and its destruction. We trust in His word to shine a light on our path and give us divine direction in Christian counseling. I have been known Caleb for three years. He has helped us to focus on our own family by supporting healthy boundaries against our extended family. About the wounded past, it was such a journey to go back together with the Holy Sprit and deal with the wounds with his power and true forgiveness for me and others. So that we can be ourselves as God has created. My husband and I recommend him. Caleb has demonstrated sensitivity, caring, encouragement and good insights. Caleb have taken a risk to speak truths with love for us. Caleb also gives options of faith based approach or not. We always feel he respects us.
We came to New Vision to address behaviors that were causing troubling patterns in our communication. Both of us are very good communicators, but we came into a season where additional help was very much needed. During our session visits, our counselor paid close attention to nuances in how we framed each other. We came to better understand where hurts and fears were hiding, and how each can help the other be the best he/she could be. Over the next few sessions, we were guided along to address concerns from both sides and bring us closer together. The time we spent in therapy was designed to not only re-frame each person’s behavior, but also understand each person’s humanity and make needed accommodations to facilitate positive growth. Now, we are closer than ever and excited about what our future holds! One of the best investments I’ve ever made.

The counselors at New Vision Counseling are truly one of a kind. Not only do they support and care about each other in their work environment but they really care for their clients too. They give hope, passion, and life back to those that truly need it most. It is an atmosphere of unity, compassion, and excellence in all that they do. My wife and I have used New Vision Counseling for over a year. The therapist is always friendly and has excellent people skills. We have often walked in angry and walked out laughing. The approach has been from a Christian standpoint, which has been excellent for us.
When the role of a counselor is discussed it seems to be repeated theme. Among these are respect, responsibility and integrity. I have found that while respect and responsibility are without doubt important, neither can stand without integrity. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about counseling is a story from the Bible found in Exodus 17:11-13. It speaks of this battle that took place between the Israelites and the Amalekites. The Israelites had been brought out of bondage in Egypt, and they were on a journey through the wilderness to the Promised Land when this battle takes place. Joshua was leading the troops in battle and up on a hill stood Moses with his hand raised. When his hand was up, the Israelites were winning. When his hand was down, the Amalekites would overtake them. Moses' hands became tired. You can relate, right?We all face battles. Some of us are fighting for our marriages or our children, others are fighting against addiction, depression, anxiety, or maybe anger. In the midst of these battles, sometimes we become discouraged, overwhelmed, or simply after trying to do it all on our own - we have a "Moses moment" - we get tired and battle weary. Here's the part of the story that gets me every time: Moses is standing there tired, unable to hold his hands up any longer on his own, and it looks as though they may be defeated when two individuals, Aaron and Hur, come alongside Moses and begin to support his hands as they are lifted until the battle is won. Isn't that incredible, friends? What seems impossible alone is possible when we allow others to come alongside us. We were never meant to live alone. We were never meant to face battles on our own. We need each other, not because we are weak individually but because together we are stronger, together we are encouraged, and together there is the sweet fragrance of victory on the other side of any battle we may face.This is where counseling comes in. I do not know what battle you may face personally, but I do know the battles I have faced. I have had my "Moses moments" in the midst of fighting for precious things in life and have needed the services New Vision Counseling offer. I have tried other places in the past, but there is just something different in the quality of services and the atmosphere of this place. Shawn Maguire and his team at New Vision Counseling are amazing therapists who genuinely love the Lord and want to see you succeed. They really listen, get to the heart of the issue, and formulate an individualized plan for you that works if you are willing to do your part.
